Accessibility Statement

Al Jazeera Media Network

At Al Jazeera Media Network (AJMN), we are committed to making our products, services, and content accessible to all individuals, including persons with disabilities. We believe accessibility is a fundamental aspect of our public service mission and strive to provide inclusive access across all platforms.

Our Commitment

AJMN aims to meet the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Our accessibility efforts are guided by best practices and international standards to ensure our digital and broadcast services are usable by as many people as possible.

Digital Accessibility

We apply the technical requirements of EN 301 549 v3.2.1, which aligns with WCAG 2.1 Level AA, to our digital products including:

  • Websites
  • Mobile Applications
  • Connected TV Applications

Our products are developed using a combination of:

  • Automated testing tools integrated into development workflows
  • Manual testing by internal teams and accessibility experts
  • Continuous review and improvement processes

At present, most of our digital platforms are partially compliant with EN 301 549 v3.2.1 and WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We continue to address remaining issues and enhance accessibility features.

Broadcast Accessibility

We recognize the importance of accessible audiovisual content for our global audience. As part of our ongoing commitment:

  • Closed captioning is available for selected Al Jazeera English linear TV channels.
  • Sign language interpretation is provided for limited content where feasible.
  • Additional features, such as audio description and enhanced EPG accessibility, are in development.

Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, some accessibility barriers remain. These include:

  1. Missing text alternatives for some non-text content
  2. Incomplete video captions on certain legacy or live-streamed content
  3. Lack of audio description on most video material
  4. Visual-only presentation of information, especially in tables and infographics
  5. Limited keyboard navigation, particularly for interactive components such as video players

We are actively working to address these limitations.

Assistive Technology Compatibility

Our digital products are designed to support:

  • Latest versions of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Apple Safari
  • Popular screen readers and keyboard navigation tools
